About J ROCK

Primary students across Australia asked for their own Rock Eisteddfod Challenge® event and in 2004 they got it, as J Rock™ launched in style to commemorate the event’s 25th Anniversary in Australia…

In 2005 J ROCK™ was firmly cemented into the Global Rock Challenge™ family. Nearly 11,000 students from schools around Australia rocked on stage in scores of venues and all embraced the key healthy lifestyle values of the event.

More than 100 schools around the nation performed their hearts out, participated in Healthy Food Fun Fairs, skipped with Jump Rope for Heart teams, worked out with Fitness First and generally caught the J Rock™ spirit.

Just like their high school cousins J Rock™ provides the opportunity for primary school students to tell a story of their choice, on stage with costumes and music in front of a live audience. Utilising the same prestigious venues and ‘A’ class production equipment provided for the high school event.

J Rock™ is…

Non competitive

J Rock™ is a non competitive event, every school leaves as a winner. Our aim and focus is to teach students to have fun and learn the benefits of eating healthy food and being active. We continue to strive to produce an enjoyable and long-lasting positive experience for all participants.

Professional
J Rock™ is run by an independent non profit Foundation which has been developing the senior event for 30 years in Australia. Our events have also been embraced in New Zealand, UK, UAE, Germany, Ireland and Japan. J Rock™ utilises the same first class venues and A class production equipment provided for the high school event.

Educational
The event’s focus is on students making healthy lifestyle choices and learning how important being active and eating healthy food is. Throughout the day professional educators will run workshops on nutrition, sport, dance, drama and health to show students how fun learning about being healthy really is and how easy it is to get active. The whole day has an informal yet inspirational atmosphere.

Accessible

There is an expenditure ceiling of $2,500 placed on each team’s production expenditure. Each entry can involve as few as 20 and as many as 146 participants, making

J Rock™ accessible and achievable for every school.

Competitive J Rock™

Due to a number or schools requests, in 2009 we provided J Rock™ schools in Melbourne and Sydney with an option to participate in the event as a competition. This has now grown with all J Rock™ schools in Australia given the option to compete for the National Final and participate in a competitive J Rock™ only night at some locations.

How did this work?

On the Expression of Interest form schools could nominate to participate in either the non-competitive or competitive sections. Some participated in both!

Those schools who nominated to participate in the event in the non competitive section participated on event days which have no competition involved.

In 2011, those schools who nominated to participate in the event in the competitive section were eligible for our National TV Final and our first Global Rock Challenge Event.

This year we will have entirely competitive nights at some of our locations, so if you’re interested in being a part of this, please call 02 9417 4122.

This gave schools the option of stepping up and being involved in a competition or enjoying the non-competitive atmosphere that J Rock™ has become famous for.

We’re looking forward to see what all J Rock™ schools come up with in 2012!

J Rock RAW™

Near the end of 2010, a teacher requested that we trial a new division, J Rock RAW™.

J Rock RAW™ will be based on the elements of RAW™ (see the “About RAW™” section of this website) but will have the flexibility and ethos of J Rock™.

There is an expenditure ceiling of $1,500 placed on each team’s production expenditure. Each entry can involve as few as 30 and as many as 128 participants, making J Rock RAW™ a division that is more accessible than ever.

If you are interested in entering J Rock RAW™ in 2012, please call 02 9417 4122.
