What Students Gain

Rock Eisteddfod Challenge® is more than just an eight minute performances; it is a learning processes that makes it possible for students to achieve a broad range of benefits:

  • Life skills
  • Communication skills
  • The ability to work as part of a team
  • Problem solving skills
  • Motivation to be responsible with their health and maintain a 100% drug and alcohol free lifestyle
  • Self confidence
  • The belief that “they can do it”.

Time and time again, schools explain to us how students’ experiences and the skills gained through participation in Rock Eisteddfod Challenge® flow through to their learning in the classroom.

Self confidence and personal development are the two main capabilities teachers list as being gained by students through involvement in Rock Eisteddfod Challenge®.

Rock Eisteddfod Challenge® provides students who suffer from learning or social interaction issues the opportunity to develop self confidence and skills that will allow them to be more successful both in and out of the classroom.

The event can be an innovative way to encourage students to represent their school outside the traditional sporting and academic areas.

What Schools Gain

Rock Eisteddfod Challenge® is an excellent tool to raise the profile of your school not only in the local community but in wider education circles.

Principals report enrolments are often attracted through the school’s involvement. The reputation of the school’s approach to education is perceived as being broad, holistic and one that caters for students who wish to excel in areas outside the classroom.

It’s one of the only school activities that combines students, teachers, parents and the wider community. A sense of pride is instilled in the students with improved relationships with teachers in which an environment of acceptance and understanding is created.

Without a doubt, teacher/student relationships are strengthened through participation as is their sense of pride in their school.

What Teachers Gain

Rock Eisteddfod Challenge® not only makes the facilitation of student learning more achievable for teachers, it also provides teachers with an opportunity to get out of the classroom, get to know their students in a different environment (and vice versa) and have fun.

A lot is written about the unique opportunity Rock Eisteddfod Challenge® presents to students, however the event also presents a unique and exciting opportunity for teachers. You do not need to have a performing or creative arts background; whatever your teaching background you can stage a Rock Eisteddfod Challenge® performance.

Countless entries are run by english, science, maths, history teachers; many quite successfully. In 2006, Smith’s Hill High School won second place in the National Final and was directed by a science teacher.

In 2006, two Rock Eisteddfod Challenge® teachers were granted bursaries to attend and be involved in one of the Global Rock Challenge™ events to aid with their professional development. Fully paid airfares, accommodation and spending money and a whole lot of fun.
