Read about the very first UK National Grand Final

2009 saw a milestone event for the Be Your Best UK Rock Challenge® with the first ever NATIONAL Grand Final taking place. 10 Premier teams and 2 Open teams from the Northern and Southern regions took part.

One of the highlights from the day was the breaking of the world record for world’s largest air guitar ensemble! An official representative from the Guinness Book of World Records was on site and confirmed that participants had smashed the record by more than 400 participants, making the new record 1261!

The final evening performance was an outstanding example of the shining talent and enthusiasm that the UK has to offer. The UK’s first ever National Grand Final winner was Sandown High School with their performance ‘Cursed’, a twist on the classic tale of Beauty and the Beast. Making their success all the more impressive, Sandown High School were one of only two Open division schools who qualified for the National Grand Final. Sandown High School’s performance was also one of only two that were entirely student-led.

All who attended the event, whether student, teacher, sponsor, volunteer, audience member or crew, would agree that the very first Rock Challenge National Grand Final will be remembered for many years to come.
