FOR Chantal Pegg, playing the role of an anorexic teen was pretty intense but one she felt strongly about.
Last night Chantal, 15, stepped into the shoes of Sancia, the main character in Yeppoon State High School's Rock Eisteddfod Challenge performance.
Chantal and a group of 52 other drama students said they came up with a storyline surrounding the issue of anorexia because it was a major influence on teens today.
The Rock Eisteddfod Challenge, held at the Pilbeam Theatre last night, was aimed at raising awareness among youths about the significance of good mental health and the services available to them.
For Yeppoon State High School students, creating the storyline, making costumes and organising the play was all part of their year 10 drama assessment.
Even though the students didn't take home the winner's trophy, they're still hoping for As on their report card.
The winner was Glenmore State High School.
Other schools to compete were St Brendan's College and St Ursula's College, as well as Farnborough State Primary School in the J Rock section.
Sarah Lowcock said during the Yeppoon play, students dressed in white represented health, while black outfits represented anorexia taking over.
In the end, Sancia learns to fight off the disease and stand on her own two feet.
Mixed with the serious aspect was an array of flips, lifts and dance, which the students said were a lot of fun. Chantal said she enjoyed being tossed around - something she was used to as a gymnast. She said she hoped to work in the theatre industry when she left school.
