Mullumbimby High School Students Rock Eisteddfod

By Kate O'Neil

MULLUMBIMBY High School scored a swag of awards in the Queensland Health Rock Eisteddfod Challenge at the Gold Coast last week and will now go on to contest the state finals in Brisbane on July 29.

This is the fourth year the school has performed in the eisteddfod and they hope to match or exceed their 2007 win in the Queensland finals.

Forty-five students, from Years 7 to 11, were involved, led by their dedicated drama teacher Kim Mitchell.

The Rock Eisteddfod Challenge is promoting a `Good Mental Health Rocks' campaign this year, aimed at creating awareness among youth about the significance of good mental health, as well as the help and services available to them.

Mullumbimby High's performance at the Gold Coast Arts Centre was themed `Let's reflect on not being a reject' and focused on the fine art of getting back out into the world and having another go after rejection and disappointment.

The students performed in the RAW division of the competition, which has a `no sets' rule and focuses solely on the performance elements of dance and drama.

It was a true team effort and every aspect - from the dance and performance to music, lighting and make-up - was put together by the students.
